THE BRIDGE

The meeting space is hung from the sleek beam that runs horizontally and forms a moulded sculptural element that leads to the powerfully dramatic office space of Zhang Yin. The transparent quality of the office column belonging to Ratan Tata highlights the idea of circulation, movement and equality.

Shot taken looking into the meeting space. The columns emphasise authority and strength. The cage-like structure holds together a more fragile element, a glass frame that surrounds the one most important feature of the space - a dynamic dining table designed for Zhang Yin & Ratan Tata.

The above three images push forward the notion of FOCUS, where Zhang Yin is the focal point of all that surrounds her. The long passageway draws the visitor towards her office, where it unravels and unfolds into a space that brings the eyes to the one place - where Zhang Yin sits.

Tip of the Week

When using UT, it is always boring to have only flat long platforms and spaces. By using the vertex editing tool on the top right hand corner of the side toolbox, sloping and tilted platforms and ramps can be made.

This is done by first creating a space (e.g cube), click on it to highlight it, and then pressing on the ctrl key left-click a vertex to drag in any direction as favoured! I feel this has more control than using the actor rotate key!

IDEAS

S k e t c h e s

Zhang Yin's office: "Focus"/"Focal Point"
Ratan Tata's office: "Equality"/ "Transparent"

Dining table for Zhang Yin & Ratan Tata

The throne-like design of the (right) side of the table (image above) dedicated to Zhang Yin emphasises her high position; one that demands others of their attention so that she may be the focus, or focal point in the space.

The raised platform in the above dining table reflecrs the power often found in the royal courts of kings and queens, where the space in which they sit or inhabit is often looking down on the rest of the court.

The heavy, chunky stone look of the design highlights rigidity and solidity, which conveys the aspect of a person's strength and power, in which a table must be designed to sustain its function without breakage.

The elongated semi-circle design of the dining area dedicated to Ratan Tata and his colleagues are situated on the exact opposite side of where Zhang Yin may dine. The distinct shape of the semi-circle suggests subtly the idea of equality, where one sits will always direct the attention towards one focal point - ie. the end of the table (where Zhang Yin sits).

The simplicity of the design (consisting of only a tabletop and pair of rectangular prism legs) alludes to the lifestyle of Ratan Tata. Stylish, modern and classicly beautiful, it provides a spacious area for good dining and conversing. Although he may be rich and powerful, he will not invest all his wealth into his own comfort, but rather in what is necessary for himself and beneficial for others.

In the above animation, it shows how the table will respond to human touch.
The table is situated slightly below the floor/ground, and will emerge out of the ground to its original height.

Elevator in motion - Images captured on Sketchup&UT

The elevator rotates in an anticlockwise direction as it makes its way up the other 2 levels

Elevators

Elevator - Wealth

The series of 3 steps emphasise the "rise" to power
The dollar sign is symbolic to their economic worth

Elevator - Dominance

The vertical elements that run along the two adjacent walls gives the elevator a sense of dominating power, as though emphasising a connection with the heavenly realms.
The large scale of the elevator (when compared to the human being) highlights the idea of empowerment, bringing the person back to an inferior position.
